Helper is the second short story of the Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens Extra Games anthology. Author Chiaki Kisaki explains in the anthology's afterward that she considered writing a spin-off novel based on José Martínez to explain how Martínez and Enokida met while complementing light novel volumes four and six (which delve into the backstories of Enokida and Martínez, respectively). "Helper" is a draft that was approved for inclusion in the short story collection. Kisaki counts it among her favorite works and claims it influenced her in writing the sixth light novel.
